horizontal error

The average error in range, deflection, or radius, within which a weapon may be expected to strike or fall in the target area. The horizontal error of weapons making a nearly vertical approach to the target is described in terms of circular error probability. The horizontal error of weapons producing an elliptical dispersion pattern is expressed in terms of probable error.
